win xp pro & primavera (timberline)

I have a win nt server that handles our accounting software,primavera/timberline).
In win xp pro, in order to use the software I must be able to ping the server by name.
when I ping the server with it`s ip address, I can see the server but not usethe software.
When win xp was first installed this worked fine.
nothing has changed on the desktop machine running win xp,but I can no longer ping the server by name.I have done all the name resolve
tips that microsoft has to offer,nothing works.
Is there something I should know about XP pro that will resolve my little problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
