win XP restore went too far back?

The wireless adpater on my win XP media center edition was flaking out – it would just disappear – so I thought I would try a system restore.

what a nightmare. I can’t recall is ever asking me for a restore point to go back to and it assured me tha tI wouldn’t lose any data.

so it went through its thing… and seems to have gone back to the day I first fired up this machine. I even had to rename it. well, that was the kiss of death. now the “my documents” folder is not the same one. all my software apps are there, but it does not see my data; I did find some of the music files, however, but it is a far cry from the 40 gigs in my itunes…

I tried to undo the restore and it doesn’t offer me any other restore points to go back to …
