Win2K Pro in a Mixed Microsoft Workgroup

by aldric . Updated 25 years ago

I have 6 machines (3 Win2k and 3 Win98) all in a workgroup called WORKGROUP. All the machines are set up to allow NetBios over TCP/IP, a static IP, no WINS and Enable LMHOSTS lookup.

If I open network neighborhood on the Win2k boxes and click on”Computers near me” I get the error “The account is not authorized to log in from this location”. However, if I search for the computer I can find it and connect to it in the usual way.

Recently, our IT group installed a DHCP server. It may havenothing to do with this, but prior to this install I could browse the workgroup from Network Neighborhood.

Any ideas why this is happening? Any ideas how I can reconfigure my WORKGROUP to solve my problem?

The only reason I have this set up isfor Print and File Sharing. I have never set up a domain, just sticking to workgroups, but would this help my problem.

All ideas are welcome and thank you ahead of time for your time
