Win95 reinstalled problem

Hi, I reinstalled Windows 95 because I had lost the text under the icons on the desktop and on the IE tool bar and the background colors on all screens and programs looked like I was in the safemode. Now when I login and enter my password I have the same problems, but if I cancel on the password screen Windows 95 loads just fine with all the text and background colors great! Why does this happen? How can I correct it? This is a gateway, five years old. Thanks for your help – Penny
