Windows 2000 Desktops Bluescreening when inserting burned cdrs

I have a problem that has been isolated to the software / operating system. Whenever you insert a burned cdr into our windows 2000 machines, it blue screens. Reimaging the machines fixes the problem, but because we still have over 1000 2k machines in the environment, we don’t have time to reimage all of them. These are all dell optiplex gx270 or gx280s. Has anyone run into this and found a sure-fire fix without a reimage?
