Windows vista and the blue screen of death

Today, i started my acer aspire 5100 laptop, and a few minutes after the desktop appered, i get a weird blue screen with white dots scattered across it. i have tried removing recently installed programs, stopping many programs from running at startup, and windows still only functions in safe mode.
