Hi I got 2 computers at home which I have been having a problem with for the past month and I have absolutely exhausted all my resources 8-(.
Im trying to do a very simple thing. Im trying to network my Windows 98 system with ym WIndows XP systemusing a crossover cable.
I have a Windows 98 system with an ISA ethernet card (AMD PCNET which is XP Compatiable) and an xp system with a realtek card. Ive setup TCP/IP and I have the ip Adrr. as follows
192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 MSHOME XP
192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 MSHOME 98
I can see the 98 system in network places in XP but I cant see the system in 98. When I double click the 98 system in network places I get \\computername is not accessible. You might not have permissions to view this resource. Contact system administrator. Network Path not found. I do have resources shared on 98 and on XP. IM using the same logon account on both computers. I have nwlink installed as well and I also tried netBeui. I used the network setup disk xp provides but that didnt work either. I tried pinging and that does not work. I can ping boths 127.0.0.1 and their own ip’s but i cannot ping both of them together(ie I cannot ping xp from 98 or vice versa) But the funny thing is I can see the 98 computer on XP? What am I doing wrong. I have setup Windows Networks fine without a problem but this aint just working please help me. MY email is exx_2000@yahoo.com or biju_mathew_77@hotmail.com.
Thanks in advance
p.s. I have a screen cap you could use which shows the error and the network places in xp.
which has both systems.
