Windows2000 DSL modem Promblem

The machine that Im tryting to hel a client with has windows 2000 pro on it and the os is a fresh install of the os . The error that Im getting is that I now that the modem is functioning and the drivers are up to date. Also the DSL modem a Arescom modem for a MSN . The problem is that I cannot get a connection to the internet , But the connections are set up and enabled. If there are any suggestions out there please help thank YOu
