WINXP Network Problem

Hi all, I have a problem with my winxp. i just in stalled winxp on a new partition on my computer but cannot browse the network. Just get the error message. “access denied. you do not have permission to acess the network resource”. I can PING any computer but cant access. Reasons for changing to WINXP was couse WIN98 was misbehaving by hunging everytime and even at times lossing network resources e.g couldn’t print over the network but could browse the net without any problems. Could my network card be the one causing this problem. Please help!!
