WinXP Pro login hang after entering password

by isa . Updated 18 years, 6 months ago

Hi,

I have a domain with all Windows XP Pro clients and Active Directory running on a Windows 2003-based domain controller with a backup domain controller running NT 4. Almost all of our workstations are fine with this setup. However, I have one system — the president’s laptop unfortunately — which pauses for a long time — anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes — immediately after he enters his login credentials. The login screen dims and all the fields become greyed out but it doesn’t go away, and the bar near the top of the login window colour cycles. Eventually, after a very long delay, the window goes away and the rest of the procedure continues as normal.

I’ve found lots of articles through Google searches and the like dealing with hangs after the desktop comes up or lengthy waits as the “Loading your settings” type screens between the login window and when the desktop comes up, but this is prior to any of that.

Any help would be appreciated.
