Wireless NIC issue

My laptop wireless NIC automatically finds and connects to the network I am in close proximity to. When I return to my office, it identifies my office wireless router and notifies that I am connected, but retains the IP address from my most recent connection and does not automatically replace it with my office IP pool number. It requires me to perform an “ipconfig /release” followed by an “ipconfig /renew” to make the proper connection. Is there a setting that needs to be changed to make this work properly? The reverse circumstance always works as it should.
