Word 2003 is slow

I have a P4 PC with 1 gig ram and word is so slow to open.I have run SFC / scannow, uninstalled Norton 2004, installed AVG anti-virus and scanned.
No virus found.
Repaired Word, installed Word, reinstalled Outlook.
Nothing has changed. Still slow.
Any ideas?
