Word 2007 and Protected Word 2003 docs

I have a considerable number of documents that have been set as read-only in Word 2003 (Tools / Protect Document). I can’t figure out how to un-protect these doc files in Word 2007.

W2007 won’t let me edit docs that were protected in Word 2003, but I can’t find any option to unprotect them.

I can go into Word 2003, unprotect them, and then open in 2007, but there’s got to be a better way. HELP!
