Word “save as” lock up

When I try to change the target file/drive in either “save as” a file or open a file option in word 2003, it locks up and I end up sitting for 10 minutes before it comes back to “my computer” and pick where I want to look or save it too. I’ve heard it may be a conflict with an HP product, but can’t find a fix. I do have a new HP printer. I’ve had this problem in the past, and found a fix at the MS site, but not this time.

I’m up to date on all my office 2003 update files.
