1 of 5 workstations converted from a Windows 2000 Domain to a Windows 2003 Workgroup has problems and I’d appreciate some help.
After assigning this workstation with a new log on name and password (ws03) for the workgroup and not deleting the original (ws07) that was for the domain and taking the same steps converting the workstations from the domain to workgroup I did on the 4 previous workstations, this 1 workstations original user name continues to display in explorer, and I cannot remove the encryption and the (ws07) displayed as an unknown account.
How can I decrypt the files/folders so I can open them, copy and move them into ws03? I have tried the standard steps to decrypt but that does not work. As you can imagine, there is VERY important data in one encrypted folder. I know backup is most important however, this user had NOT backed up before the conversion as he had said and I feel pretty raunchy about taking his word and not checking the backup first. Please advise. I’ll be glad to provide more info when needed.
