writing software to capture windows printer port

Hi,
I am new to windows programming and I want to start by writing a program to capture data that goes into a network/local printer port. I want to know if anyone has any good books/ reference sites or articles they could point me to so that I could start working on this. I have previous experience programming in linux and c. But I want to learn something new and I have a need to write the above program and hence thought of giving it a try in windows.

Any pointers or help are appreciated.
