xconfiguration

in my RH 7.1 system i cannot xconfigurator.
after the mouse detection it asks whether to
configure the same and when clicked yes it comes
out and the message is
critical error reading /etc/sysconfig/mouse
check permission
check whether u rrunning as root

i cannot configure my screen resolution
