xp component parts

is there a list or utility that can be used to check that an XP installation has all of its component parts / files / programs / drivers etc.

I have one laptop with XP pro that continually loses bits and a desktop that crashes with messages of ?.exe or dll not found.

with a list or utility I could ensure all required items installed properly
