XP default profile

I am migrating a number of XP laptops from one domain to another using the Quest/Aelita migration tool.
This requires the laptops to remain ‘up’, firewalls off, etc.
This can be set on the user profile – however, if the users log off at the end of the day … what profile is enforced – when there is no-one logged on ?
Do I set up the settings I require on the default user profile – or … ??
