Xp pro cannot get email on Exchange 5.5

Over my LAN I cannot get windows XP professional to connect with my Exchange 5.5.I’m running Outlook 2000 that came with the machine.I can not even ping this server, but I can ping other servers in the same location. All other machines running win98are not having a problem in the same location.I’ve tried more than one XP machine also,I’ve done everything I can think of. PLEASE HELP.
