XPs RD, Win2K TS and Local Printers

by jason . Updated 23 years, 10 months ago

I have a customer who has a Windows 2000 Domain setup. The domain consists of two servers. One server acts as the PDC and Terminal Server and the other server provides mail services via Exchange. They also have 12 computers running Windows XP Home which connect to the Terminal Server via Remote Desktop. They have it setup to allow local printers to be shared on the Terminal Server as they work, however, the printers are all out of wack. One printer, a Lexmark X63 is no longer connected to any of the computers, however, every time someone logs into the server, a new session of the printer is added to the server and that user has that session set as the default which of course causes errors since the printer no longer exists. Also, whenever the TS server is restarted, remote printers start printing old print jobs.

What I really need is a way to control which printer is imported to the server (I would really only like each user to only see their own printer), a way to stop or clean out the old print jobs and a way to fully remove a printer from the server/rd computers.

If you have any additional questions on the setup, please feel free to ask.

Any thoughts, tools or ideas? Thanks in advance, Jason.
