  • Solar powered cars hit the race track

    No, it’s not a still from a new live-action Space Invaders flick, these are solar powered cars burning up the track in Istanbul on Aug. 30, 2005, during the first-ever Formula-G Turkish Solar Car Grand Prix. Fifteen solar powered cars developed by students in Turkey filled up the Formula 1 tarmac at Istanbul Park traveling at up to 60 km per hour. Cars were allowed to complete the eight rounds within a maximum two-hour time limit.
