This DisplayCard from InCard Technologies generates a new password at the push of a button. The numerical one-time password is shown in a box on the card itself.

  • The button is on the back of the DisplayCard. The password could be used in combination with a PIN (personal identification number) to provide two-factor authentication–and help online shoppers avoid fraud, InCard says.

  • Pressing the button on the back of the DisplayCard clears the screen and creates a new password.

  • The one-time passwords generated by the DisplayCard are authenticated by a secure server to help ensure that the cardholder is the one making the transaction. Also, the physical card must be present to serve up the password.

  • The chip on the DisplayCard does the work of coming up with one-time passwords. The card here, aimed at the European market, also includes a chip for making micropayments and other purposes. InCard is working on adding another chip that can store data such as store loyalty card information.
