2wire Home Portal slow wireless connection.

2Wire HomePortal 1000HW, trying to connect my DSL to Compaq Presario 2188CL with Broadcom 802.11g built in wireless. My wireless connection will only achieve 80-85 kbps. I borrowed a Linksys wireless router and plugged in to the system and get my full Dsl bandwidth by doing so. I have tried various things from complete reset of the 2wire homeportal to changing encryption from 64 bit to 128 bit. I have moved the 2wire unit to other places in the house thinking maybe I had some type of interference. Any thoughts?
