A user reported this error in Access 2000 SP1: A query was run on a database. [The client is a Win2k SP2.] Then the user switched to another application. When he returned to the query sometime later, it was blank and he received multiple errors messages all stating “Disk or network error”.
After closing out (clicked OK) all of the pop-up messages, a new pop-up opened, which “You can’t save this record at this time. Microsoft Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a record. If you close this object now, the data changes you made will be lost. Do you want to close the database object now? Yes, No.”
The user closed out of the database and upon opening it up again, the database appeared to be OK (not corrupt), but he was not really sure if any data is corrupt or not.
This happens to many Access 2000 database we have (have not had time to check them all). No changes were made to the databases and the only change in the environment iswe just moved the location of the databases to a networked Solaris SAN from a networked Win2k SP2 shared network drive.
I’m not exactly sure why this error is occurred but believe that error occurs because Microsoft Jet is looking for a TEMP folder and path. If the path is non-existent or unfound than the error occurs. The database in this case exists on a networked SAN and the TEMP path/folder is unavailable to ACCESS when this database is used, so an error occurs. All of this was noted in Microsoft KB# Q251254.
Has anyone run into this error before? Is so, how did you determine the cause and what fix was used? If not, does my hypothesis hold water?
