activex

i removed an activex file (adult links toolbar) from a friends computer. now activex will not work in ie6 (it will not allow java to configure properly). ihave reloaded java and ie4 to no avail, when i startup say a crossword puzzle online it informs me that i need a newer version of java(microsoft)virtual machine. it links me to the download site then tells me that i have the most current (which i just reinstalled) version……how can i recover this ability, or reconfig Activex.
