Administrator Permissions

I am fairly new to this so be gentle. I am running xp pro as sole Administrator. On occasion I receive errors saying I don’t have the right permissions. Where do I find permissions and how do I adjust? I’m only one on machine. You can email lorenk1@suddenlink to help me if this is too roopkie to be said here. Thanks. Loren
