Adobe & publisher don’t mix

When i run adobe photo shop elements and microsoft publisher 2003 on windows xp pro they cancel each other out. If publisher is running, then i boot up adobe, i can work in adobe but the second i switch back to publisher, adobe disapears. It also is not shown in the task manager (adobe). Now when i close publisher to reboot adobe reappears now that publisher is gone. What is up? is there a setting that can be changed? If you know please help, big points…
