AOL and POP3

Can you tell me if AOL uses pop3, IMAP, or HTTP? Also do they use an SMTP server? Can I use Outlook Express with my AOL account?
How about NetZero?
Thanks in advance for any help. Getting help of any proficiency from AOL is a tall order.
