Arcserve2000 and merging media

I’m running Arcserve2000 on a Win2k box and even after recreating the backup jobs from scratch, at the end of the job (when its supposed to merge the media into the database) it does not. I have to perform a manual merge.
I create a tiny backup job and it does merge… any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
