Hi again, this is a great forum! I’ve been asking this question all over the place, so please forgive me if you’ve already read it. I need to auto-configure Outlook 2000 in IMO with an IMAP account. Ths idea is that anyone who has access to Outlook on my network sohuld be able to access their mail from any machine.
I do not have an Exchange server (or any other local mail server), but I do have an remote, IMAP-capable mail server available via our web host.
I want to use IMAP, because I have to keep mail on the server for a period of time after it was originally downloaded (company policy). When using POP accounts in Outlook, mail is re-downloaded everytime a user uses a different computer, even if I customize Outlook and store the pst file on a local file server (which I understand is not a good practice anyway). IMAP gets around this download problem by enabling access to the mail as it sits on the server and only downloads headers (which appear to sync in a different manner and don’t re-download).
None of the MSOFT customization tools appear to have any IMAP-account handling capabilities, and I have not been able to figure out everything that is added to the registry to create a custom script.
Anyone else had to deal with this…any suggestions (other than “get Exchange”, which budget-wise is out of the question)? Thanks in advance…
