AutoCorrect in Word 2000 stops working

My client has Office 2000 Professional. She is using MS Word. She intentionally misspells some words to set them up in AutoCorrect. Then she opens a new document. The AutoCorrect feature works for awhile, but eventually it stops working. There are no error messages as far as I know. Her OS is XP Pro. Switching to Office XP is not an option.
