Bad video card?

by lynxspyder . Updated 19 years, 9 months ago

I’ve recently been having an issue with my video card, a Radeon x850 XT, that occurs while playing games. It’s an intermittent problem that causes graphics corruption and then, eventually, loss of signal from the card to the monitor.

When I reboot, the graphics corruption persists, and the only workaround I’ve found thus far is to boot in safe mode, uninstall the drivers and then reinstall. This usually “fixes” the issue for a week or so, but inevitably it returns while playing any 3D-accelerated game. Sometimes I can play for hours without an issue but then come back a day or two later and encounter the problem a few minutes into a game.

I was ready to toss the video card and get a new one, but I’m just not positive that it’s a hardware issue and not software related. I’ve gone through several Catalyst updates in the last few weeks and the problem occurs in all of them, including the latest 7.1 build.

Any suggestions?
