Broadband router use

by jonthemod . Updated 19 years, 8 months ago

I have two 4-port routers. The first (SMC Barricade) connects to the cable modem. The second (dlink DI-514)connects to the SMC. This is because I have multiple ports throughout the house. The SMC is located in the basement and the dlink on my office upstairs. Previously their positions were reversed. I have two XP machines directly connected to the SMC. Two other connected to the dlink. All are on the same workgroup. I can get access to the two XP machines from each other, but no access to the machines on the dlink, and vice versa. The dlink is also specified on the same workgroup and I have specified the Ip settings on the dlink as fixed, while mapping the IP/MAC address on the SMC. Also the DNS and gateway settings on the dlink point to the SMC.

How can I get all four computers seeing each other? I need access to a shared printer that could be seen when the routers were reversed. I switched router positions because of poor wireless signals coming from the dlink when it was in the basement.

Help me please somebody…..please
