Burning/decoding Software for DVD-+RW

I am looking for anyone who might know of some free dvd burning software that can be downloaded. I am trying to make backup copies of my dvds so it would have to be a dvd to dvd copying software. Please if anyone has any sites for me let me know?
I did get some software with the computer called VERTIAS Record Now, but when I try to make a duplicate copy i get an error basically stating that some DVDs have protection on them, but as i understood there is some software that gets past the protection. Please let me know if you have any imput at all
