Cannot Install Software/Games

I’m trying to install my copy of 3D Studio Max but I get an error that says that there is a DLL file missing that is needed for the installation. When I check the contents of the disk I can see the cdll file that is “supposed” to be missing. The same thing occurs when I’m trying to install some of my games. I’ve tried everything that comes to mind. Please help?
