Cannot open new window in IE

Hello all,

Links in internet explorer that open a new window fail to work and right-clicking on a hyperlink and choosing ‘open in a new window’ does not work either. i.e. nothing happens, the hyperlink does not open neither in the current window nor in another.

It seems that the user installed a pop-up stopper ‘gator?’ and then uninstalled it but it left this problem.

Any suggestions on what to check for, how to find out what’s stopping the new windows from being created?
