Can’t get accents to work in MS ACCESS

I need to use accents in text fields in an Access database. Examples: forward and backward accent over an “e” or a ^ over an “i”. I can get them to work in Word but not in Access. In Word, I use CTRL forward apostrophe, e. Access copies anotherfield instead of inserting the accent. Are there different commands for Access? Multi language support is installed on my PC. What am I missing? This is driving me crazy….. I’ve checked Microsoft’s website with no luck… Thanks.
