Checking File Integrity before Download

I am facing a problem while downloading files from internet, some files are corrupt and even after re-download it is corrupt it seems that it might be corrupt in the server itself. Is there any mechanism to find whether a file is corrupt or not before downloading itself?,since it saves a lot of time.
