Color your value list

Using Access 2003
I’m try to color code my database building it in Access.
Im able to color Yes and No combo boxes but unable to color other types of list value type combo boxes why not.
in the format property of a Yes/No box I can put

“Yes”[green];”No”[red] and it will change colors

now im tying to color say Pay Status using a regular list value box.

“Pending”[Red];”Paid”[green];”PD-MTR”[yellow]

My question is how can I color the selection of a combo box and why can I do it in a yes and no box and not a value list combo box.
