Combining text fields in database or ACT

We are converting from Q&A 4.0 to ACT 4.0. We wish to combine FIRST and LAST name fields into a single new field called NAME before converting. We have exported to Excel but data was truncated due to its 255 character cell limit, so when we exportedback to Q&A, we lost a lot of notes. We also tried to do the combining in Q&A and ACT, but we still can’t figure it out.

Help!!!
