compaq presario 7170,no drivers for 98se

I am running windows 98se on my presario 7170 It was installed from dos(not an upgrade).I cant get it out of dos compatability mode.Are there drivers I can get to run in 32bit mode?I need them for both my hard drives and my cd-rom.I have been told that reinstalling 95 might fix my problem but, do I realy need to do that?
