converting a .pdf to a .doc

I know that a .doc (WORD file) can be converted into a .pdf file (in this case, Adobe Acrobat). Is there any way to convert it back into a WORD document without losing the formatting? (Tried the select, copy, paste routine from the .pdf to the .doc, but lost all formatting).
