Copying from Excel to Word

When I copy from Excel to Word, the columes get all scrunched up! Any secrets to copy and have it look the same in Word as it did in Excel.
My Excel columes have numbers in some and text in some. I am running Windows 98SE; Word 97 SR-1; Excel 97 SR-1… HELP!!
