Database Migration

I have a database in Access 2000 running on a machine using the Windows XP OS.
I regularly use this database at work and at home.
The work PC is running Access 97 with Windows 2000
Proffesional OS.
When working at home the database works as it should with no problems and when I need it at work I convert it to a previous version.
However when I try to open the database on my work machine an error displays the “Unrecognised database format” message.
How can I resolve this or am I missing something?.
