difference between visual studio.net and visual studio 2005

hi all,
Could someone tell me what is the difference between visual studio.net and visual studio 2005? As far as i know, vs2005 is the latest. is that right? i got a book to study visualbasic.net . can i use VS 2005 to study VB.net?
