We use a DOS application on an IBM server (dual Pentium II 45o Mhz/512Mb/SCSI HDD/WinNT 4.0 Server) and it works very well until now. We can run local this application (for complex operations) and also from clients workstations. I’m not 100% sure what database is used by this application because we don’t have the source and all records are stored in “special files”.
Now we have a new Server (IBM/Pentium IV/2.4GHz/1Gb/RAID SCSI controller/WinNT4.0) and I moved this DOS application on it. All isOK (for clients!) except that we can’t run local this application. We receive a “Run time error 200” or sometime begin to open and then freeze (in this situation I can’t close it and I’m was forced to restart the server from power button).
The vendor said that this application needs an upgrade because it has problems with Pentium IV architecture. They want to force us to sign a service contract for one year (which is very expensive), but on my notebook which is a Pentium IV with WinXP Professional works very well (local and from network). I tried on Pentium III/ WinNT4.0 and all is fine.
I tried many different settings or tricks but no success. Also I search on the Internet and I found some patches for application compiled with Borland Pascal but doesn’t work.
Please help me to diagnose this issue.
