dvd burner problem

i recently purchased a dell 4155 with a dvd/cd RW drive inside. When using Roxio to burn my first DVD after purchasing DVD-R’s, I found that my software wasn’t “current” and I would need to pay $60 to download a new version of the roxio software, version 6…any idea if this software might be on my computer in reality but i need to use a different prog to burn it, or does anyone know of any dvd burning software out there thats possibly free?
