Easy CD creator 4.0-Burn prob Cd & CD/RW

Got Win 98se- Easy CD creator 4.0 on Compaq Presario. CD/RW LG
Used to be able to drag and drop files onto CD’s & CD/RW.
No longer can do so. Tried burning thru Easy CD creator data CD, looks like its burning but cd empty. Also tried CD copier to create backups of my disks. Also no go. Checked master/slave inside box & all cables tight. Tried Reinstalling Direct CD, still no luck.
Need to back up my documents before a clean format, can anybody help???
