Excel anchoring problem in pcs

When clicking onto any cell in Excel, the cursor acts starts anchoring from cell where cursor is placed and when you moved the cursor it just highlights the text as you’re moving it. No editing can be done, can’t even escape out of it and worst of all, can’t even exit application normally – must do a ctrl-alt-del and end task. How do you fix this problem?
